Understanding on Betting Tips

Betting tips are provided by a tipster but be aware it is merely a speculation and not a guarantee.

A tipster is someone who routinely offers information (tips) on the possible results of sports events on blogs or on special betting sites.

In the past tips have been bartered for and traded but nowadays, thanks largely to Internet and premium-rate telephone lines, they are usually exchanged for money, and many tipsters operate web sites. Some are free and others require subscription.

A tip in gambling is a bet suggested by a third party who is perceived to be more familiar with the topic than the bookmaker who sets the initial odds. (The bookmaker can vary his odds depending on the amount of money wagered, but must start with a blank book and set an initial price to promote betting.) Therefore, the tipster is not even considered a guarantee, but that the bookmaker has set a price that is too low (or too high) from what the real risk is: it is a form of financial derivative, because the tipster itself does not gamble any of its own money.

The Tipster must surmount the profit margin integrated by bookmakers trading teams into sports betting odds and then also gain an additional edge to deliver long-term profit.

Tipsters are sometimes insiders of a specific sport able to provide bettors with information that is not available to the public. Other tipsters provide equally respectable results through the analysis of information that is commonly accessible.

Some tipsters use statistical estimates of a game’s outcome, and compare that estimate with the odds of the bookmaker. If there is a gap between the estimate odds and the odds of bookmakers, the tipster is said to identify “value,” and a person who bets on such odds is said to be a “value bettor” when he perceives no certainty but a “gap in the book.” The tipster recommends that bettor place a bet when value is found.

A tip that is considered to be a racing certainty, that is, almost completely certain to be true, is also called a nap and tipsters in newspapers will tend to indicate the “nap”.

In the past tipping was mostly associated with horse racing but can apply to any sport that has odds offered on it.
